Housing Accommodations
South Dakota School of
Mines offers diverse housing options for conference guests. These
include air-conditioned suites and double occupancy spaces as well as
very affordable non-air-conditioned double and single occupancy spaces.
Housing rates vary depending on which option is most suitable for your
conference.
Linen Service
Linen sets and towels
are available for an additional cost. Linen service arrangements must be
made in advance. If you choose not to purchase this option, please
provide your own linens, pillows, and towels. Package deals are
available, contact Summer Conferencing Services for more information.
Guests staying longer
than a week can exchange used linens and towels for fresh linen and
towel sets. Guests will be responsible for placing the new linens on
their beds. The weekly exchange takes place on Mondays. Summer
Conferencing Services does not provide extra linens. Although the
university does not provide maid service in sleeping rooms, the common
areas of residence halls are cleaned daily as are meeting facilities in
academic buildings.
It is the guest’s
responsibility to provide personal amenities as well as laundry soap,
fabric softener, hangers, hair dryers, and irons. Ice machines are
available in Peterson and Palmerton halls, and room lighting is limited
to an overhead light in Peterson and overhead lights plus desk lamps in
Palmerton and Connolly.
Keys, Access Cards
and Meal Cards
It is important that
each person who is issued a key, access card, and meal card, retain
possession of them throughout their stay. Access cards allow entry into
Peterson Hall and must be used at all times in order to access the
building. For security purposes, entrances to all residence halls are
locked 24 hours a day. Lost or inactive keys and access cards should be
reported to the Surbeck Center as soon as possible. You can be issued a
new access card, keys and/or meal card in the Surbeck Center. Charges
will be assessed for each lost key, access card, or meal card.
Special Housing
Accommodations
South Dakota School of
Mines understands the special housing requirements of some conference
guests and wants to provide the best possible service to these guests.
It is important to specify the stipulations for guests who require an
attendant, have special medical needs, or who need first floor
accessibility to a building so that proper arrangements can be made.
It is important to
indicate any and all special needs your conference participants may
require (i.e., having wheelchair-accessible facilities and/or housing
accommodations, living on a single gender floor or any special dietary
requirements).
Housing
Accommodations List, Roommates, Early Check-ins and Late Check-outs
You will be asked to
submit a housing accommodations list, including arrival and departure
dates for each guest, catering and dining requests, and any special
requirements. All numbers for housing accommodations must be confirmed
at least three weeks prior to the conference to ensure proper service.
Please note that any number over the number originally contracted for is
not guaranteed. Any spouses or family members of conference
participants must be included on the housing accommodations list in
order to reside on campus. Participants not on the housing
accommodations list will not be allowed to reside on campus. One child
may stay in the room of a parent for no additional charge but additional
beds and linens will not be provided. Please indicate those individuals
staying in double rooms on the participant list, as well as requested
roommate pairings. Otherwise, the Residence Life Office will pair
roommates.
All keys, access cards
and meal cards must be returned to the check-out location during the
specified check-out time, which is usually 10 a.m. Failure to do so will
result lost key, lost key card and lost meal card charges.
Arrangements must be
made prior to the conference for early check-ins and late check-outs.
Additionally, we welcome your request that a guest be permitted to have
an extended stay to enjoy the Black Hills area or to accommodate travel
arrangements. As such, permission will be granted based on
availability. Charges for these services will be included in
participants' conference bills. Guests may not arrange to pay
separately.
Policies
The residence halls are governed by the State of South Dakota’s Board of
Regents. Board policies are enforced year round. For more information on
policies, see the SDSM&T Student Code of Conduct or call Residence Life
at 605/ 394-2348.
Smoking is not allowed
in any university building.
Alcohol and other drugs
are prohibited on campus.
